President Barack Obama celebrated Earth Day in Newton and unveiled his energy plan.

The president spoke for approximately 30 minutes to a crowd of 100 at Trinity Structural Towers, with Trinity employees and local, state and federal elected officials about his energy plan which he hopes will put the U.S. in first when it comes to the production of renewable energy and help the nation's economy recover.

"We can allow climate change to wreak unnatural havoc across the landscape, or we can create jobs working to prevent its worst effects. We can hand over the jobs of the 21st century to our competitors, or we can confront what countries in Europe and Asia have already recognized as both a challenge and an opportunity: The nation that leads the world in creating new energy sources will be the nation that leads the 21st-century global economy. "

Obama hopes his energy plan will decrease the nation's dependency of foreign oil, create jobs in the clean energy sector, promote U.S. competitiveness, invest in energy technologies and help the U.S. become a leader in producing renewable energies such as wind and biofuels.

" On this Earth Day, it is time for us to lay a new foundation for economic growth by beginning a new era of energy exploration in America," he said."

Newton was chosen as the backdrop for the president's Earth Day speech because of the two wind energy plants that have relocated in the community and developed hundreds of jobs since the shuttering of Maytag's doors in October of 2006.

"Look at what we see here today. This facility is alive again with new industry," he said. "This community is still going through some tough times. If you talk to your neighbors and friends, I know they ? the community still hasn't fully recovered from the loss of Maytag. Not everybody has been rehired. But more than 100 people will now be employed at this plant ? maybe more, if we keep on moving.

Thurs April 23rd, Newton High School and many volunteers will be out making Newton, Iowa our community beautiful. A great big thanks.

Well we finally found out. Congress didn't pass the 15,0000.00 Stimulus bill but they did pass the $8000.00 credit for first time home buyers. Well I guess it's better then nothing I just wish they would of spread it out a little and include all homebuyers. But I guess we'll deal with the cards were dealt with.

Any questions about this give your Doyle & DeVoe Iowa Realty agent a call or email.

Interest rates will continue to lower especially if Retail comes out and their Holiday Sales are down.

The fed will most likely drop rates at that point. Another great reason to be buying a home. Call your Newton Iowa Realty Agent to set you up on auto email of new listings as soon as they hit the market.

To me this is the best time of year being with family, friends and co-workers. Thursday will be Thanksgiving I love having family around, my sisters, brother, brother-n-laws, my nieces and nephews, our parents. I'm thankful and so lucky to have a wonderful family.

Friday night is the lighted Christmas Parade here in Newton around the town square then the courthouse lighting. At Doyle & DeVoe we've been working on a float which is fun and trying at times.

Our coat drive will be ending in two weeks. What a success it has been, we have collected tons of coats we started delivering to the local schools, salvation army and who ever else has requested one.

That is why I love this time of year it is always busy, music programs, holiday parties, baking, eating, wrapping gifts It's also a time for giving.  Remember those in need.

Please remember what the season is for.

Have a wonderful Holiday and be safe.

The Doyle & DeVoe Team.

Newton is located 25 miles straight East of DesMoines capitol of Iowa. We're right on interstate 80. Newton has a lot to offer, great schools, beautiful parks,  drive in Theater, the quality of living is why a lot of folks relocate here.

Ok now lets talk about all the housing market chatter. Homes are selling but we're finding that they have to be priced in the market.

Our market will rebound a lot quicker then other areas, we didn't see huge price increases like other areas.

And yes banks are still loaning money. It is more driven by credit score now more then ever.

So yes you can still obtain a loan. If you have any questions about the market or concerns call or e-mail our office. Wer'e  there for your questions. The leaders in the Newton market, our agents are skilled and very good at negotiations to get you where you want to be.
