There's never been a better time....be the first time!

We've been asked a few questions about the new Stimulus bill and how it affects Newton, Colfax & Baxter Buyers.

1. Who qualifies for the $8000.00 credit on the purchase of a new home?

You must be a first-time home buyer, which the law defines as someone who hasn't owned a primary home for 3 years. You must buy the home between Jan 1st and Dec 1st of 2009.

2. I'm planning to buy a home for $50,000. Will I get the tax credit for $8000?

No. The credit is equal to 10 percent of the home's purchase price, up to the maximum of $8,000. You would be limited to $5,000.

As always any questions feel free to contact one of our Newton Iowa Realty agents. They would love to assist you.

This is a great time to be buying a home with the $8000.00  tax credit for first time home buyer it's being offered in 2009. You can receive information from your Realtors at Doyle & DeVoe Iowa Realty and make sure you check with your tax advisor first. Any questions give Geri Doyle a call or any of the other Realtors in our office a call at 641-792-5656.

Did you buy a home in Jasper County in 2008 or before? If so, remember that a homestead exemption does not carry over to the new owner. You need to file for your own exemption in order to take advantage of the lower property taxes it brings.

If you bought your primary residence in 2008, you have until June 30, 2009 to file your homestead exemption for the year 2009. Not to be cliche, but use it or lose it!

If you’re not a new owner and already have the homestead exemption on your home, it renews automatically and you don’t need to refile. Another great reason for owning a home.
